surviveysoa:

Just because you’re up late, doesn’t mean you’ve got to eat at Gourmet Heaven. See what else New Haven has to offer in the wee of the morn’.

Opentil’s office hours…

The Story of Opentil

The story of Opentil begins in January 2010 in Tempe, Arizona.  There, a ragtag group of misfit hackers began to routinely convene in one of Arizona’s two* 24-hour (sorta) coffee houses to tackle an application to the IRS for having HeatSync Labs recognized as a federal 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which it was approved for over a year later.  The paperwork made a number of us hungry, but we had no way to know what restaurant would be open or if they would have wifi.  We ran into the same problem so many times that I began to notice it was a problem.  Digging through restaurant pages and review sites and hoping hours were being kept up-to-date or even included was becoming a repeated, noticeable nuisance and I kept looking for something that would be able to solve it.  What was out there just wasn’t good enough, and I wanted something better.  To my surprise, there was nothing I found in the vastness of cybersauce in 2010 devoted to answering the simple question of how late is stuff around me open ‘til?

After over a year of having to ask that question, I’ve decided to build a means to answer it.

* Xtreme Bean doesn’t close on Friday and Saturday nights.  Arizona’s truly 24-hour coffee establishment is Shot in the Dark Cafe in Tucson.

huertanix:

Google Maps provides a useful, free-of-charge means of geocoding a postal address and getting latitude and longitude information back to use for plotting markers on a Google map. Unfortunately, that mostly sums up the only thing you’d legally be allowed to do with the returned latitude and…
